What is a Bircas HaTorah Women’s Seminar?Bircas HaTorah Women’s Seminars are designed to inspire today’s Jewish woman to approach her Judaism with greater professionalism and joy. Being in the presence of such great Torah educators as the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shimon Green, Rabbi Zahavie Green, Rabbi Asher Baruch Wegbreit, as well as guided discussions with Rebbetzen Ayelet Wegbreit, and other staff members, participants are awakened to their potential as Torah observant Jews. Textual analysis in small groups preceding each class challenges participants to establish their own relationship with the material being discussed. Discussion-style lectures draw upon the insights and questions of all participants in the context of the teacher’s expertise to form a deeper understanding of the Torah’s illumination for our lives. Eligibility for ParticipationStudents of all ages and learning backgrounds are encouraged to attend the seminars on an ongoing basis. The content and the interactive nature of the class offer tangible tools for everyday life. This appeals to women regardless of whether they are new to learning about Judaism or educated from childhood in a Torah observant home. The Rabbis Green and Wegbreit bridge differences in familiarity levels through illuminating Torah messages which are vibrantly applicable to all. Students more accustomed to Jewish study are kept on their toes through the innovative thinking of beginners while those new to Torah are aided by those whose skill levels are more advanced. An exciting atmosphere of diverse and cooperative exploration is skillfully choreographed by Bircas HaTorahs staff to contribute a richer understanding of the Torah to all. What's special is the friendships that result during class time and out of class, resulting in many new bonds between women that otherwise would never have been made. LocationBircas HaTorah seminars for women usually take place in the lovely, ancient Churva synagogue at the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem. Currently the Churva is under construction and a temporary alternate location has been established in a lovely home in the Old City. Minutes away from the Kotel and surrounded by the homes of Bircas HaTorah’s welcoming community, often the afternoons of participants include discovering more of the Old City’s rich community and enjoying the age-old holy sites this landmark has to offer. DatesSeminars take place for two consecutive weeks at two or three month intervals, usually at some time immediately before, during, or after a meaningful time period in the Jewish calendar. Long term, the Women's seminar staff hopes to open up a Bircas HaTorah seminary for women in the Old City based on interest of its students and the unique and special learning that the seminars offer.
