The Yeshiva Blog

Welcome

Hi, and welcome to the Yeshiva Blog.

The decision to spend time learning in yeshiva, and which yeshiva to learn in can be one of the most significant decisions in your life. When considering which yeshiva to learn in there are probably many questions that occur to you.

  • Should you learn in Eretz Yisrael or Chutz L’aretz?
  • What type of yeshiva would you like to learn in?
  • What’s the yeshiva’s hashkafa (outlook on the world)?
  • What should I be looking for in a yeshiva?
  • What type of students learn there?
  • What do you actually spend your time learning?
  • What is the social side of the yeshiva like?
  • Where will I be living?
  • How much does it cost?
  • What’s the difference between the different yeshivas?
  • What will my life be like after yeshiva?

Once you have decided where you would like to go, you may be wondering more practical matters:

  • What should I do next?
  • What do I need to take with me?
  • What is the annual schedule? And can I travel during zman?
  • What do I need to do to organise medical insurance / visas?

Not every yeshiva is the right fit for every talmid

Here in The Yeshiva Blog we will address these questions and many many more. This is not a comprehensive guide to yeshivas worldwide. For a number of reasons, not least because this is the area we specialise in, we are going to focus primarily on the English speaking Yeshiva world in Israel. There are a plethora of different yeshivas to choose from, offering a wide range of learning opportunities. But not every yeshiva is the right fit for every talmid

In Yeshivas Bircas HaTorah we believe that spending time in full-time learning in yeshiva is an integral part of a young Jewish man’s growth and development, helping him prepare for married life and for raising a family of his own. You will hear plenty about Bircas HaTorah in this blog, but our goal is not to sell Bircas HaTorah to you. To be completely frank, we may not be the best choice for you. What are your needs? And what is your situation?

It is our hope that Iy’H through the posts and videos in “The Yeshiva Blog” we will help you clarify what you are looking for? and what is on offer in the world of yeshivas?  And then, based on what you’ve heard, you can make an informed decision.
